Xai-Xai City Council employees continue strike after meeting with the city council failed to reach a consensus

Xai-Xai City Council employees have decided to extend the strike they began last Thursday, following a meeting held with the city council on Monday that failed to provide concrete answers to their demands. More than 330 workers attended the meeting but left disappointed, describing it as misleading and demagogic. Their main complaints include the lack of implementation of the Single Salary Table (TSU), persecution of those who complain about working conditions, arbitrary transfers, reprisals, and unjustified dismissals.

The strikers are criticizing Finance Councilwoman Cláudia Eli, whom they consider to be representative of behavior that contributes to the poor work environment. They demand her removal, as well as that of other council members, for allegedly boycotting the solutions they are demanding. Until effective responses are presented, the strike will continue, with employees arguing that their concerns must be taken seriously, noting that they are the pillars of the municipality's operations.

The strike by more than 480 employees and seasonal workers is already having a visible impact on the city, such as the increase in garbage accumulation along National Road Number One. Residents of the upper zone are concerned about the public health risks posed by the situation.

Municipal president Emídio Xavier met with employees but left without making any statements. A new meeting is scheduled for September, but workers are demanding immediate action, including the removal of council members they consider to be hindering the implementation of the TSU.

This is the second time that Xai-Xai municipal employees have gone on strike in an attempt to pressure the city to fulfill its obligations. The strike remains open without an end date, pending effective solutions.
