The U.S. Government Confirms the Continuation of the Millennium Challenge Corporation Compact in Mozambique

The United States Embassy in Mozambique is pleased to announce that, following the Foreign Assistance Review, the Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC) Board of Directors met in August and recommended moving forward with Mozambique’s Coastal Connectivity and Resilience Compact. This recommendation reflects the continued confidence in the cooperation between the United States and Mozambique, highlighting the promise to deliver tangible results for both peoples.

“The United States is proud of our longstanding cooperation with Mozambique,” said Chargé d’Affaires Abigail L. Dressel. “The decision to move forward with the Compact demonstrates the commitment of both countries to building a stronger and more prosperous future. By refining the program’s focus, we are ensuring that American investment creates opportunities for Mozambicans while promoting stability and economic growth that benefit both our nations.”

The Compact is fully aligned with U.S. foreign policy priorities and aims to deliver concrete benefits for both Mozambicans and Americans. These refinements underscore the U.S. government’s commitment to accountability, transparency, and measurable results, ensuring that American taxpayer investments promote mutual prosperity.

Since 2007, the MCC and Mozambique have collaborated on critical investments in the transport and infrastructure administration sectors, strengthening the foundations for economic growth in the country. The United States remains committed to its bilateral relationship with Mozambique and to efforts that promote self-sufficiency and long-term economic growth.

The Millennium Challenge Corporation is an independent U.S. government agency focused on advancing America’s economic and strategic interests through results-driven foreign assistance.  MCC’s investments support large-scale infrastructure, strategic reforms, and economic modernization that deliver measurable returns.  Countries and U.S. taxpayers mutually benefit from expanded commercial opportunities for U.S. businesses, reduced influence of competitors, and reinforced global environments aligned with the United States.
