The Minister of Transport and Logistics, João Matlombe, assured this Monday that the Government is working to lower airfare prices, particularly on Mozambique Airlines (LAM). The statement was made during a visit to Maputo International Airport, where Matlombe met with the company's management and other representatives of the sector.
According to the minister, the current ticket costs are inaccessible to most Mozambicans, which has limited internal mobility and harmed tourism and business.
"We are aware that air travel is still a privilege for the few," Matlombe stated.
"Our goal is to make air transport more inclusive, so that more citizens can use it."
Among the measures under study are a review of LAM's operational model, optimization of flight management, and negotiations with partners to obtain fuel and assistance services at lower prices. In addition, the introduction of new aircraft into the fleet and the restructuring of the company are planned as part of a broader plan to revitalize the national aviation sector.
Matlombe assured that the tariff reduction will not affect the safety or quality of service, maintaining the company's sustainability as a priority. Although he did not indicate specific dates, the minister stated that the measure will be implemented soon, with visible results in the coming months.
