The European Union is mobilizing €1.15 million and providing logistical support for flood victims in Southern Africa

The European Commissioner for Crisis Management, Hadja Lahbib, confirmed via social media the urgent mobilization of resources to deal with the deadly floods ravaging Southern Africa.

Specifically, the European Union is channeling €1.15 million in financial support for direct humanitarian assistance in Mozambique and Malawi. In addition to monetary support, the European bloc has strengthened its intervention by sending technical experts through the UN and activating the EU Humanitarian Air Bridge, aimed at delivering essential goods to isolated populations.

The latest data, released by the Emergency Response Coordination Center, indicates that the situation in Mozambique is extremely serious. According to these reports, there are already 122 confirmed deaths and more than 716,000 people affected by the rising waters. Alongside the human tragedy, the material destruction is extensive: almost 80,000 homes have been damaged or completely destroyed, forcing the displacement of more than 15,000 citizens to shelters.
