Despite the gradual decrease in water levels over the past 24 hours, the Maputo, Incomáti, and Limpopo river basins remain above the alert level, prompting authorities to urge the public to maintain precautions near these areas. The situation is expected to remain largely unchanged over the next 48 hours, according to the Regional Water Administration (ARA-Sul, IP).
In the last 24 hours, no rainfall was recorded in the rain gauge network of the Southern Region of the country, according to the latest hydrological bulletin.
Despite the lack of rain, the Maputo (in Madubula), Incomáti (in Magude), and Limpopo (in Combomune, Sicacate, and Chókwè) river basins remain above the alert level, registering a gradual decrease in water levels. This trend is due to the slowdown in rainfall and the reduction in runoff from upstream areas.
The remaining basins in the region show fluctuations with a general downward trend, but remain below the alert threshold.
Regarding the filling of the region's main reservoirs, the data indicates:
- Pequenos Libombos Dam (BPL): 76.80% of capacity, with a stored volume of 295.35 Mm³.
- Corumana Reservoir: 83.66% of capacity, with 1125.79 Mm³.
- Massingir Reservoir: 60.23% of capacity, with 1708.33 Mm³.
For the next 48 hours, no significant changes are expected in the hydrological scenario. A continued reduction in flows is predicted in the main basins, with the Maputo, Incomáti, and Limpopo basins remaining on alert.
Given this situation, ARA-Sul, IP, appeals to the general public to exercise caution when approaching the Maputo, Incomáti, and Limpopo rivers, due to the risk of being swept away by the force of the water. The agency also recommends continuous monitoring of hydrological information released by the competent authorities.
