Mozambican Salomão Silvestre Júnior achieved 12th place in the Bushveld Tour in South Africa, a result that not only places him among the best in a competition with 128 athletes, but also etchs his name in the annals of national sport: he is the first golfer from Mozambique to compete in this international circuit, an important stepping stone to the prestigious Sunshine Tour.
A ranking on the Bushveld Tour is more than just a number. It represents the culmination of a journey of overcoming challenges that began far from the spotlight, on the greens of the golf course, where a young Solomon, then only 13 years old, worked as a caddie. It was by observing the players' shots with surgical precision that his initial curiosity transformed into an overwhelming passion. From the edge of the course to the center of the green, his story is a living testament to how discipline, dedication, and a keen eye can shape a career.
Today, Salomão Júnior is one of the most promising names in Mozambican golf, standing out not only for his talent, but also for the consistency and competitive maturity he demonstrates in regional and international tournaments. His presence on the Bushveld Tour and his prominent position in the final standings are proof that his growth trajectory is on the right track.
“This result means a lot to me,” the athlete shares. “Every competition is an opportunity to learn and grow. Competing with high-level players and finishing among the best gives me even more motivation to continue working and believing in my dream. I carry with me the pride of representing Mozambique and I thank Absa for their support and confidence in this journey.”
The athlete is an ambassador for Absa Bank Mozambique, a partnership that goes beyond sponsorship. The financial institution has closely followed his competitive development, recognizing the power of his example. For Tânia Oliveira, Director of Marketing and Corporate Relations at the bank, “Salomão's journey is an inspiring example of talent, resilience, and dedication. At Absa, we believe in the importance of supporting Mozambican talents who take the country's name to new stages and inspire other young people to believe in the power of effort, discipline, and opportunities.”
With the wind in his favor and history on his side, Salomão already has his sights set on the next big challenge. In April 2026, he is scheduled to participate in the Sunshine Tour, one of the most competitive circuits in Africa. His journey proves that, with perseverance and opportunities, Mozambican athletes can indeed reach new and promising horizons in international sport.
