Namapa Transforms Reality with New Water and Sanitation System

In Namapa, in the village of Eráti, Nampula province, construction work on a water reservoir with a capacity of two million liters is progressing at an accelerated pace. This infrastructure is the heart of the future Namapa Water Supply System, a structuring project being built from scratch.

The integrated system comprises an intake, a water treatment plant, a distribution center, a main pipeline, and a distribution network. On-site, a coordinated effort is observed between the contractor, inspection team, and technical teams, who work together to build a modern and resilient system.

Direct Impact on the Community

The completion of the first and second phases of the project will mark a historic turning point for the region. It is projected that 74,749 people will gain access to potable water, bringing about a profound transformation in the socio-economic landscape of Eráti and Namapa. This progress represents a fundamental contribution to public health and a direct improvement in the quality of life of the population.

A Large-Scale Project

This intervention falls under the Safe Water for Villages and Rural Areas Project, an initiative of the Government of Mozambique financed by the World Bank, with a total budget of 150 million dollars. Its implementation is the responsibility of the Ministry of Public Works, Housing and Water Resources, through the National Directorate of Water Supply and Sanitation and the Water and Sanitation Infrastructure Administration (AIAS-IP). In the provinces of Nampula and Zambézia, the project also has the support of the respective Provincial Directorates of Public Works.
