Mozambique now has a new digital platform dedicated to green entrepreneurship. MozGreen, launched on Friday, June 20, is a platform dedicated to promoting sustainable practices and businesses, connecting people, companies and environmentally friendly solutions. A project that promises to transform access to information, training and financing for projects with a positive environmental impact.
Promoted by ideialab, the initiative was financed by the World Bank and the Korea World Bank Partnership Facility (KWPF), a South Korean Government fund managed by the World Bank.
Born from the need to create a starting point for entrepreneurs and citizens interested in adopting more environmentally friendly practices, MozGreen aims to aggregate information, training, opportunities and visibility for projects and companies committed to sustainability.
“MozGreen is a digital, inclusive and collaborative space where anyone interested in the green economy can find training, funding and practical tools to transform ideas into sustainable solutions”,said Adelina Nhanala, Project Manager at ideialab.
Since 2017, ideialab “has been working side by side with impact entrepreneurs”, knowing “their difficulties up close: limited access to useful content, the complexity of bureaucracy, the scarcity of financing and the lack of visibility”, added the same person in charge, noting that “the objective is to build a fairer, greener and more prosperous future”.
In a country highly vulnerable to the effects of climate change, where only 37% of the population has heard of the issue, MozGreen is committed to mobilizing and empowering micro, small and medium-sized enterprises (MSMEs), encouraging responsible practices, a circular economy and solutions that respond to local environmental challenges.
According to Laurent Olivier Corthay, Senior Economist in the World Bank’s Finance, Competitiveness and Investment Team, “MozGreen offers a one-stop shop where SMEs can find networking opportunities with other companies, access to learning resources, financing opportunities and white papers on climate resilience.” With this, he stressed, “we aim to increase management capacity to anticipate climate risks and the needs of ecological transition.”
The MozGreen platform, now available online (www.mozgreen.com), facilitates access to knowledge, financing opportunities and legal framework, contributing to the strengthening of green entrepreneurship in Mozambique and reinforcing the commitment to sustainable development and environmental education in the country.
