Mozambique is once again asserting itself in the African Lusophone landscape by standing out in the Top 100 Inspiring Women from Portuguese-Speaking African Countries (PALOP) 2026 list, released this Tuesday by Womenice, as part of the celebrations for International Women's Month.
Among the most prominent figures on the list are names widely recognized in the Portuguese-speaking African world, such as Graça Machel, Paulina Chiziane, Lurdes Mutola, Fátima Mimbire, Quitéria Guirengane, Leila Lopes, Maria Borges, Mayra Andrade, Vera Daves de Sousa, Filomena Fortes, Helena Semedo, Dina Salústio, Suzi Barbosa, and Esperança da Costa. From Mozambique, personalities such as Gueta Chapo, Lizha James, Mingas, Renata Sadimba, and Josina Machel stand out, names that continue to elevate the country in the fields of culture, activism, and social intervention.
The initiative brings together 100 women from Mozambique, Angola, Cape Verde, Guinea-Bissau, and São Tomé and Príncipe, recognizing individuals who, through their leadership, creativity, innovation, and social commitment, have made a significant contribution to the development of their communities and to enhancing the role of women in society.
The selection process was conducted by a committee led by Tania Tomé, with the participation of Graça Sanches and Danielle Stsecki. The list seeks to give visibility to women from different social backgrounds, including people with albinism, women with disabilities, and leaders with less media exposure, but whose impact has been fundamental in building more just and inclusive societies. More than a symbolic distinction, the initiative aims to celebrate the strength, resilience, and transformative contribution of African women, who continue to inspire and open new paths in the Lusophone world.
According to the organization, the selection of the honorees sought to ensure a balance between different areas of activity, including politics, science, culture, entrepreneurship, communication, arts, social activism, and sports, as well as a balanced representation among the PALOP countries. Another central element of this edition is the commitment to inclusion and diversity.
