The “BCI-Mozambique Chess Open 2025” ended last Sunday, June 22, after three days of intense competition in the KaTembe Municipal District, Maputo City. The event, which had the support of the BCI, was promoted by the Mozambican Chess Federation and brought together hundreds of athletes, including children, in an atmosphere of fair play and fellowship.
At the closing ceremony, BCI Administrator Rogério Lam highlighted the institution’s pride in once again being associated with this important sporting initiative. “BCI feels deeply honoured to support this competition and reaffirms its commitment to the development of chess in Mozambique. We will be present at the next edition, certain that, together, we will achieve even more impressive results”, he stated.
Rogério Lam also praised the enthusiasm and dedication of the participants, stressing that BCI’s involvement in this competition reflects the institution’s commitment to the development of national sport. “Supporting chess means investing in talent, discipline and strategy, values that also guide BCI’s performance in the market,” he stressed.
This 5th edition of the “BCI Chess Open” stood out for its international participation, with athletes from Mozambique, South Africa, Eswatini, Botswana, Zimbabwe, Malawi, Portugal and India.
Donaldo Paiva, Mozambican national champion, was crowned winner in the men's “Open” category, while Linda Shaba, from Zimbabwe, won the trophy in the women's competition.
With the success of this edition, BCI reinforces its commitment to continue contributing actively to the strengthening of sport in the country.
