Mozambique and ExxonMobil Sign Agreements for Gas Training and Domestic Gas Studies

Two strategic memoranda of understanding for the development of Mozambique were signed. The first involves the construction of a technology center in Maputo for the training of young Mozambicans. The land, located in the Zimpeto Stadium area and owned by ENH, already has infrastructure, including fencing, water, and electricity. In this context, ExxonMobil will support the project with $40 million.

Construction of the center is scheduled to begin next year. The initial goal is to train 100 young people from all provinces of the country – each province will contribute 10 trainees. To this end, the center will be equipped not only with classrooms and simulation rooms for offshore and onshore operations in the oil and gas sector, but also with accommodation, a restaurant, a gym, and a clinic. In this way, it will be a complete complex that will allow young people from all provinces to have accommodation and training lasting approximately three years.

The vision behind this center is the transfer of technology and knowledge from multinational companies to Mozambicans. Given that Mozambique is currently among the top ten global gas players, it is crucial to have qualified national engineers. Initially, the training will include English, a fundamental skill before the technical component, ensuring that young people are prepared to work not only with ExxonMobil, but with any multinational in the sector, in Mozambique, the SADC region, Africa, or the world.

The long-term ambition is for the center to reach a capacity for around 250 young people, training approximately 1000 technicians in four years.

This investment in Mozambican human capital is considered a vital contribution and a lasting legacy for the country.
