ISUTC's new General Directorate begins cycle. marked by a strengthened commitment to sustainability

Maputo, May 12, 2026 –The Higher Institute of Transport and Communications (ISUTC) held the inauguration ceremony for its new General Directorate on Friday, May 8th, marking a new institutional stage and reinforcing the institution's commitment to sustainability, innovation, social responsibility, and alignment with global challenges.

Professor José Leopoldo Nhampossa was sworn in as Director-General of ISUTC, and Professor Faizal Carsane as Deputy Director-General, assuming leadership of the institution during a phase of strategic consolidation and strengthening of its role in higher education in Mozambique.

"I reaffirm my commitment to working with transparency, rigor, and a team spirit to build an ISUTC that is increasingly cohesive, innovative, and a benchmark in Mozambican higher education.""This is what the new Director-General stated at the time, arguing that the future of the institution will be built with the involvement of everyone."

According to the Deputy Director-General, Professor Faizal Carsane, the new cycle should consolidate the institution's progress and project it to new heights. "The main challenge is to maintain the quality standards that distinguish ISUTC and take it to other regional and international horizons, making the institution a reference point outside of Mozambique as well," he emphasized.

During the ceremony, the main strategic objectives for the future of ISUTC were presented, highlighting the enhancement of academic quality, the strengthening of research, innovation, the connection with the productive sector, and the integration of sustainability as a cross-cutting axis of institutional life.

The inauguration coincided with the launch, on the ISUTC campus, of an awareness campaign for the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) of the United Nations, through the installation of visual elements alluding to the 2030 Agenda. The initiative aims to bring the SDGs closer to the daily life of the academic community, making them more present and visible to students, teachers and staff. The campaign has a pedagogical and symbolic dimension, reinforcing the idea that sustainability should be integrated into teaching, research, institutional management and the daily practices of the academic community.

This commitment takes on particular relevance in the year that ISUTC formally joins the UI GreenMetric Sustainable University Rankings, an international platform that assesses the performance of higher education institutions in terms of sustainability, based on indicators related to infrastructure, energy, waste management, water, mobility, teaching, research and governance. Participation in this international ranking is part of a broader strategy to consolidate sustainability as an institutional focus, allowing for the structuring and systematization of information, the evaluation of existing practices and the identification of opportunities for improvement.

Later this year, the first Sustainability Report of Transcom and its institutions, including ISUTC, will also be launched, marking an important milestone in the institutional maturity process. The report will constitute the first structured exercise in consolidating information on the institution's economic, social, environmental, and governance performance.

More than just a one-off document, the report aims to establish the foundation for an ongoing process of reporting, monitoring, and improvement, aligned with international benchmarks such as the Global Reporting Initiative, the Sustainable Development Goals, and good governance practices.

With this set of initiatives, ISUTC reinforces its vision of institutional evolution based on quality, responsibility, innovation and sustainability, seeking to prepare professionals capable of responding to the current and future challenges of the country and the world.
