In Mulotana, a private initiative restores the crossing of the Matola River

Residents of the Mulotana district in Boane breathed a sigh of relief. With the receding waters of the Matola River, the much-needed crossing was restored, but not through government action. A local businessman mobilized his own workers, materials, and equipment to repair and improve the road.

However, behind the immediate relief, popular indignation is growing. The community questions the government's performance, since this is not the first time the problem has recurred. The situation is recurring: it is initiatives by individuals, and not structural public works, that temporarily resolve the impasse on the bridge.

The dissatisfaction goes beyond the crossing itself. The episode sheds light on the deficiencies of a district in constant and accelerated expansion. Mulotana urgently calls for permanent investments in basic infrastructure: a potable water network, decent roads, a safe and permanent bridge, as well as a hospital and adequate schools to serve its growing population.
