The First Lady of the Republic of Mozambique, Gueta Chapo, visited the Mozambican Handball Federation (FMAND) last Friday, June 13, to learn about the current state of the sport and reaffirm her support.
The wife of the Head of State, who used to play the sport herself, met with the athletes and assured them of her support for women's sports. Gueta Chapo began playing handball in Sofala, at Dondo Secondary School.
On that occasion, the leader said, “This visit allowed us to listen, reflect, and reaffirm our conviction that handball plays a fundamental role in the sporting, social, and human development of our young people. Handball has always held a special place in the hearts of Mozambicans,” said Gueta Chapo.
She believes that rebuilding the mystique of handball requires increasingly active and meaningful involvement by girls. “Our expectation is clear: we want to develop handball together and give it the prominent place it deserves in the national sports scene,” she concluded.
During his visit to the Mozambican Handball Federation, the Minister of Youth and Sports, Caifadine Manasse, said that the visit gives the sport a new dimension. For the minister, “this special moment means that we are on the right track and that having the affection of Mama Gueta will leverage our work to continue to give our best so that Mozambican sport is increasingly stronger, increasingly closer to communities and, in particular, to women and teenage girls.”
For the president of FMAND, Rogério Jamisse, this visit is very important because the organization he heads wants to change the current scenario of the sport. “If you notice, one of the four words we have been using on this side is trust. And trust comes a little from what has been said. Investment comes when there is transparency. And that transparency comes from gaining trust,” concluded the leader.
