The First Lady of the Republic, Isaura Gueta Selemane Chapo, received this Tuesday, in her office, a donation of ophthalmological and school supplies from the Spanish organization Beyond Suncare. The donation is a result of the working visit she made with the President of the Republic, Daniel Chapo, to Spain last June.
Speaking during the handover ceremony, the First Lady explained that the support is the result of advocacy efforts carried out during her trip, where she met with institutions specializing in ophthalmology and the fight against cancer. “It is a great pleasure to be here receiving this donation, considering that we worked hard when we visited Spain. There, we visited an organization specializing in ophthalmology products and a world-renowned hospital, and we made our request so that we could help people with albinism,” she stated.
Gueta Chapo emphasized that this is a concrete response to the needs of the albinism community in Mozambique. “We have many brothers, children, and mothers here in Mozambique with this condition. The organization committed to helping us, we have been working together since June, and this is the result of our appeal,” he added.
To ensure that the aid actually reaches its intended recipients, the supplies will be distributed throughout the country under strict oversight. The First Lady detailed that the distribution will involve the spouses of governors, state secretaries, administrators, and community representatives. This model aims to prevent misuse and ensure that the products are delivered only to those who truly need them, clearly reinforcing the fight against corruption.
Underlining the need for transparency, the First Lady declared: “We have to be loyal. We received freely and we must give freely, without any charge. This is our focus, this is our role.”
This action is part of ongoing work to mobilize international partnerships to support priority groups. “We have been working in all the countries we have visited, requesting support for the Mozambican people, especially the most vulnerable: vulnerable children, girls, the elderly, female heads of household, and young people. This is one of the results. This is the first batch, and we will receive more,” he revealed.
In turn, Beyond Suncare CEO Israel Hermosilla expressed satisfaction with the partnership. “I would like to thank Her Excellency, the First Lady, and her Office for receiving us. The purpose of our meeting was to deliver a series of donations we made from Spain,” he said.
Hermosilla recalled that the initiative stemmed from the collaboration begun during the presidential visit to Seville and Toledo. “Now, we want to transfer and adapt this experience from Spain to Mozambique, with the goal of creating a small ophthalmological center of reference for the entire region. We would also like this country to have a center for the prevention and fight against breast cancer. That is our main objective,” she stated.
The donor reaffirmed the organization's strong commitment to Mozambique, highlighting its affection for the country and its desire to contribute to its social development.
