Ferroviário de Maputo won the Liga Jogabets by beating Maxquene 3-1 in a penalty shootout after a 1-1 draw in regular time in the final game that took place at Costa do Sol, last Saturday (29).
The final of the race between locomotives and tricolores ended in a 1-1 draw in regular time, taking the decision to the 11-meter mark.
Ferroviário came out on top in the penalties and took the trophy, after a dramatic clash that also rewarded the best in the competition.
The match started with great intensity and the Locomotives took the lead early on in the match, with a goal from Naftal. Coach Carlos Manuel's team showed great possession, putting pressure on their opponents and controlling the pace of the game. On the other hand, the Tricolor team coached by coach Lala's had difficulty imposing their style of play and with the score at 1-0, both teams went to half-time.
In the second half, Maxaquene reacted and managed to tie the match, keeping their hopes of winning the title alive. The game became even more tense when Huga was sent off after receiving his second yellow card, leaving his team reduced to 10 players. Referee João Paulo blew his whistle in his last match as a referee and ended his career by sending off a player with a red card.
With the game tied in regular time, the decision went to penalties. Maxaquene had the chance to win the title, but faced difficulties during the lottery. José Guirrugo started off great by saving a penalty and then two penalties from the tricolor team hit the post. The Locomotives scored 4 of the 5 penalties and were thus crowned champions of the Jogabets League.
INDIVIDUAL AWARDS
In addition to the title, Ferroviário de Maputo won other individual awards. José Guirrugo was awarded as the best goalkeeper of the competition, having conceded only 2 goals and received a prize of 25 thousand meticais and a trophy for his excellent performance. Striker Telinho was recognized as the top scorer with 6 goals, also receiving 25 thousand meticais and a trophy for his offensive contribution.
Ferroviário de Maputo also took the championship prize, receiving 300 thousand meticais for the victory. Maxaquene, which came in second place, took home 150 thousand meticais.
Costa do Sol, in third place, received 75 thousand meticais, and Vulcano was awarded as the Fair Play team, receiving 50 thousand meticais for its sporting stance throughout the competition.
It should be noted that this is Ferroviário de Maputo's second trophy, after having won the Mário Esteves Coluna Super Cup against Black Bulls also in the penalty shootout, so the locomotive team from the capital starts its season with two trophies.
