ExxonMobil and Field Ready Launch Health, Safety and Environmental Training

On June 5, 2025, final-year students from 15 educational institutions across the country simultaneously began a newly developed Health, Safety and Environment (HSE) training program, marking the launch of the program sponsored by ExxonMobil Moçambique, Limitada (EMML), the Delegated Midstream Operator in Area 4 of the Rovuma Basin Project. The program is available on the Mozambique Employability Platform, operated by Field Ready through a public-private partnership with the Government of Mozambique. It is part of a national effort to improve safety awareness and increase the employability of young Mozambicans entering the workforce.

The official launch ceremony of the programme was held at Eduardo Mondlane University (UEM), where students who have just started the course shared reflections on their learning and its relevance for their future careers. The event also brought together senior leaders from government, industry and academia, including the Secretary of State for Technical and Vocational Education, Léo Jamal, representing the Minister of Education and Culture, Samaria dos Anjos Tovela, and Prof. Manuel Guilherme Júnior, Rector of UEM.

The launch of the HSE program is a significant milestone in aligning education and training with the practical needs of Mozambique’s industrial sectors and building a skilled and safety-conscious workforce.

Speaking about the impact of the HSE program, Justin Cloutier, LNG Operations Manager at ExxonMobil Mozambique, said: “This initiative strengthens Mozambique’s workforce by embedding a strong safety culture for young people as they prepare for their careers.”

Gaspar Buque, Field Ready’s Managing Director in Mozambique, said during the launch: “We are proud of this initiative with ExxonMobil and Area 4 partners, which is part of our national commitment to youth employability. This program will directly support young Mozambicans to acquire the skills they need to enter the job market and contribute to important projects such as the Rovuma Basin.”
