Next Friday, at 6:00 pm, the Mozambique-China Cultural Center will host one of the most memorable moments in Mozambican music: the concert celebrating 50 years of singer Elvira Viegas' career.
With a unique trajectory in national culture, Elvira Viegas, along with producer Khuzula, is preparing a special show that aims to revisit key chapters of her artistic career, bringing audiences songs imbued with memories, emotion, and social critique. The celebration will also pay tribute to the artists who, over the years, shared the stage and life with the singer, most notably Tia Ivone Viegas, and, posthumously, to her brother Pacha Viegas, whose compositions remain an inescapable legacy of national music.
The concert will feature a sequence of songs and performances that reflect the richness of the artist's work and her strategic partnerships. Among the most anticipated moments are the performance of the XIQUITSI orchestra and Alvin Cossa, as well as compositions that have marked Elvira's career, such as "Coração de Pedra," "Xihlovo xá u tomi," "Nwamatibyana II," "Kupepa," "Tiva Tako," and "Lirere," among others.
The evening also features special tributes: Ivone Viegas will perform "A hitwananeni hi kweru" and "Loku hi nga londrovoti," messages calling for solidarity and education. Pacha Viegas' memory will be celebrated with the song "Psihono Psaku," recalling the importance of fair trial and empathy.
Between poetry and music, the show will also bring moments of reflection through the poems “Even on the trail, I want you to listen to me!” by José Craveirinha and “Ora chega!” by Jorge Rebelo (a former combatant), fusing literature and music on the same stage.
Over 24 moments, Elvira Viegas will lead the audience on an artistic journey that is also a journey through Mozambique's recent history, addressing themes such as peace, childhood, solidarity, social struggle, and hope.
More than just a concert, this will be a historic milestone in Mozambican music, celebrating not only the career of one of the country's greatest voices, but also the collective memory of generations who find in art a reflection of their own journey.
It is worth noting that the XHUB (Cultural and Creative Business Incubator) facilities in Maputo City hosted the press conference for the 50th anniversary concert of Elvira Viegas on August 27th at 11:00 a.m., where the production team, along with Viegas and partners, shared further details related to the concert. All journalists will also be accredited to cover this magnificent celebration of Viegas' legacy.
