On Tuesday, March 17th, the Commercial and Investment Bank (BCI) donated balls and jump ropes to the SOS Children's Village, located in the Laulane neighborhood of Maputo city, as part of its 30th anniversary celebrations.
The SOS Children's Village currently houses 67 children and young people, aged between 6 and 22, providing them with a structured family environment. Created to support orphaned, abandoned or neglected children, the institution follows the traditional SOS Village model, where each family home is led by an "SOS mother" and brings together siblings of different ages.
The offer is part of the "30 Years. 30 Thousand Balls" initiative, which aims to distribute 30,000 balls and jump ropes throughout the country, promoting inclusion, health, and well-being through sports. To date, the program has already benefited thousands of children and young people in schools, prisons, and military barracks across the country. This phase, now taking place in orphanages, represents another stage of this nationwide social responsibility program, reinforcing BCI's commitment to the communities.
During the award ceremony, Cristina Macucule, representative of BCI, highlighted the values that sport transmits: “With a ball, everyone shares the same field. They learn to respect rules, to cooperate, to communicate without words and to celebrate collective achievements. Jumping rope goes beyond a simple game: it is an instrument of health, discipline and personal growth.” Recognizing the work of the SOS Children's Village team, she added, “Your daily work is a living example of solidarity and dedication. It is the fruit of your effort, affection and commitment that builds, day after day, an environment of hope and dignity. Your sense of mission is inspiring.”
For his part, the director of the SOS Children's Village, Perengue Mapenguissa,He thanked them for the gesture and emphasized the importance of continuing the partnership between the two institutions.
With this action, BCI reaffirms its commitment to the sustainable development of Mozambique and to promoting the well-being of the communities where it operates. The celebration of its 30th anniversary thus translates into concrete initiatives that generate a real and positive impact on the lives of thousands of Mozambicans, bringing hope, inclusion, and joy through sport.
