BCI leva desporto e alegria à Casa Madre Maria Clara

As part of the “30 Years. 30 Thousand Balls” initiative, the Commercial and Investment Bank (BCI) donated balls and jump ropes to Casa Madre Maria Clara, located in the Chamanculo C neighborhood, Maputo city, on Wednesday (18).

This program aims to distribute 30,000 balls and jump ropes throughout the country, promoting inclusion, health, and well-being through sports. To date, thousands of children and young people in schools, prisons, and military barracks have already benefited.

Casa Madre Maria Clara, run by Franciscan sisters, shelters around 40 children and young people aged between 1 and 18 years old, from highly vulnerable backgrounds, including parental abandonment, orphanhood associated with war or HIV/AIDS, extreme poverty, and family breakdown. Many of these minors lived on the streets before finding shelter in the orphanage.

During the award ceremony, Anaisa Gouveia, Regional Commercial Director, highlighted the transformative role of sport and praised the work done by the sisters: “With a ball, everyone shares the same field. They learn to respect rules, to cooperate, to communicate without words and to celebrate collective achievements. Jumping rope goes beyond a simple game: it is an instrument of health, discipline and personal growth.”

In turn, Mother Maria Elisa, representative of Casa Madre Maria Clara, thanked BCI for the initiative, emphasizing the importance of sport in the physical and emotional development of children. With this action, BCI reaffirms its commitment to the sustainable development of Mozambique and to the promotion of the well-being of communities. The celebration of its 30th anniversary translates into concrete initiatives that generate a positive impact on the lives of thousands of Mozambicans, bringing hope, inclusion and joy through sport.
