Leaked Exam: ANAPRO demands annulment of the 9th grade Mathematics exam and points the finger at MINEDH

The opening of the national 9th grade exams in Mozambique, this Monday (November 25th), was abruptly marred by a serious accusation of fraud. The National Association of Teachers (ANAPRO) denounced an alleged nationwide leak of the Mathematics exam, demanding its immediate annulment and the accountability of those responsible.

According to Carlos Muhai, representative of ANAPRO, the exam began circulating on social media before the official start time, which calls into question the integrity of the entire process. “It is inconceivable that, in a system that aims to be fair and transparent, exam papers appear on phones hours before the assessment. This is an attack on the integrity of education,” declared Muhai.

To make matters worse, the association believes that this type of incident, which has recurred in previous years, undermines the credibility of the education system and doubly penalizes: students who prepared honestly and teachers who rigorously carry out their work. “Education is the cornerstone of a nation's development. When fraud like this is allowed to go unpunished, the future of thousands of young people is being compromised,” warned the representative.

In a development that exacerbates the crisis, Muhai did not rule out the possibility of collusion within the Ministry of Education and Human Development (MINEDH) itself. "It's impossible that a high-level security exam could have been leaked without internal complicity. There are clear signs of serious failures in the control mechanisms and institutional ethics," he accused.

Given this climate of distrust, ANAPRO has already announced that it will submit a formal request to the Ministry of Education and Human Development demanding the cancellation of the exam and the scheduling of a new date with reinforced security guarantees. Furthermore, the association proposes the opening of an independent inquiry to investigate the circumstances of the leak and identify those responsible.

On the other hand, news of the leak generated a wave of concern and outrage among parents, students, and teachers. Many question the repetition of these situations without visible consequences. "How can we trust a system where fraud begins even before the student enters the classroom?" lamented a parent in Maputo, echoing the sentiment of many.

To date, the Ministry of Education has not yet made an official statement. However, sources within the sector admit that the incident is under review and that decisions may be made in the coming days.

Finally, ANAPRO reiterated that its fight goes beyond this specific case, being a combat against a "culture of impunity" that, according to them, has taken root in the sector. The association calls on civil society and the competent authorities to act firmly and urgently in order to prevent the recurrence of similar cases. The demand for annulment therefore arises as a test of institutional courage to confront the problem in a transparent and effective manner.
