Magoanine B Elementary School recently hosted an innovative environmental education initiative promoted by the NGO Unidos por um Clima Melhor (UPCM). The event brought together students, teachers, and members of the local community, demonstrating that environmental awareness can and should begin early.
The main objective of the activity was to strengthen children's environmental awareness, encourage responsible solid waste management practices, and promote understanding of the impacts of climate change. The initiative highlights that environmental education is not limited to classrooms but extends to daily life and community life.
During the program, students participated in interactive lectures that combined theoretical knowledge and practical experience, allowing them to dynamically understand the importance of environmental preservation. At the same time, they carried out trash collection activities on school grounds, transforming the act of cleaning into an exercise in civic and environmental responsibility.
Additionally, students were encouraged to produce educational posters and awareness-raising materials, which served as both learning tools and means of conveying environmental stewardship messages to the community. This creative exercise allowed students to internalize sustainability concepts and become environmental ambassadors in their homes and neighborhoods.
"We want students to be true ambassadors for the environment in their homes and neighborhoods," said Rafael Cossa, founder of UPCM, reinforcing the vision of environmental education that generates real and lasting impact.
The director of Magoanine B Primary School highlighted the importance of partnerships between educational institutions and civil society organizations:
"This activity shows that education goes beyond the classroom. Our students learn to be responsible, conscientious, and active citizens in protecting the planet," he stated, highlighting that environmental awareness initiatives can prepare individuals to face climate and social challenges.
The success of this initiative reflects not only UPCM's commitment to sustainability but also the transformative power of environmental education, capable of creating behavioral changes from childhood. Ultimately, the activity reaffirms the importance of involving children, schools, and communities in building cleaner, healthier, and more resilient cities.
