Absa Boosts National Talent: Salomão Júnior, from Caddie to Champion

Absa Bank Mozambique officially announces its sponsorship of young Mozambican golfer Salomão Júnior, one of the most promising athletes in the country. Announced in 2025, this support celebrates his spirit of overcoming challenges and reinforces the Bank's commitment to inclusion, human development, and youth talent.

Born in Maputo and from a humble family, Salomão's story is a testament to resilience. Initially, he began his golf journey at age 13 as a caddie, attentively observing each player's shot. Gradually, his focus and passion for the sport transformed his initial curiosity into a promising career. Currently, he is recognized as one of the leading names in Mozambican golf, standing out both for his refined technique and the inspiring maturity with which he faces each challenge.

Indeed, his impressive life story aligns perfectly with Absa's vision. Therefore, more than just a sports sponsorship, this partnership represents a concrete investment in human potential and in strengthening narratives that inspire Mozambique to believe in the power of opportunity and effort.

Thanks to this support, the athlete is now entering a crucial phase of his career. Currently, he trains full-time at a prestigious club in South Africa, where he is preparing for one of the biggest challenges of his career: the Sunshine Tour Qualifying School, one of the most demanding competitions on the continent. His goal is clear: to represent Mozambique in international competitions and inspire a new generation.

“I always believed that golf could be more than a sport; it could be a tool for transforming my life,” says Salomão Júnior. “I started as a caddie, with big dreams and few resources. Today, with the support of Absa, I feel I can go further and show that, with dedication and opportunity, anything is possible.”

For Absa, supporting this journey is a gesture that reflects the essence of the brand: believing in people and their power to transform. “Supporting sport is, above all, investing in people, their abilities and their dreams,” declares Tânia Oliveira, Marketing and Corporate Relations Director of Absa Bank Mozambique. “Salomão embodies the values we uphold: focus, resilience and ambition. By supporting him, we want to inspire other young Mozambicans to believe in their potential and transform their talent into achievements.”

This sponsorship thus marks the starting point for a series of initiatives aimed at bringing this sport closer to the Community and Customers. The initiative is part of the Bank's new positioning, under the motto "In golf, as in life and business, every shot counts," and kicks off a strategy that will involve all its audiences through exclusive experiences, sports clinics, and youth-inspired activities.
