The atmosphere in Bobole, on the outskirts of Maputo, was marked by tension and consternation after a police officer of the Republic of Mozambique (PRM) fatally shot a child who was a passenger in a minibus. The incident occurred when the driver ignored the officer's order to stop. In response, the population, outraged by the police action, blocked National Road Number One (EN1), captured the officer involved, beat him to death, and burned his body at the scene.
The blockade of the EN1 caused massive congestion, affecting thousands of vehicles, with only motorcycles able to circulate. Witnesses claim the officer was lynched without any intervention from the authorities, which sparked criticism of the police force's actions and stance. The public demands justice and calls for a thorough investigation, as well as measures to stop abuses by PRM officers, whose actions have generated distrust and fear among citizens.
