A new privatized parking lot opened this week near the Zimpeto National Stadium in Maputo. With a capacity for approximately two thousand vehicles, the infrastructure aims to reorganize traffic in a notoriously congested area, marked by disorganized parking near the Wholesale Market and the Bus Terminal.
According to information gathered by Miramar, the park is fully equipped with infrastructure and, in this first phase, should absorb a significant portion of the vehicles that currently occupy sidewalks and verges improperly. In addition to being organized, the space offers improved safety conditions, a fact that has been well received by motorists.
Local businesses also consider the measure positive, emphasizing that the collection of fees should not negatively affect their activities. The management of the facility is being coordinated with the Municipal Mobility and Parking Company, which is carrying out awareness campaigns to encourage changes in habits and the use of the reserved space.
For its part, the Maputo City Council believes that the park will not only bring benefits to urban traffic, but will also help to make the Sports Heritage Fund more profitable, thus contributing to the maintenance of the stadium. In the short term, it is also planned to install "no parking" signs on the adjacent sidewalks, a measure that will strengthen the fight against illegal parking and encourage respect for traffic rules.
