Xivotchongo factory in Matola-Rio closes production following Municipal guidance

The only factory dedicated to the production of "Xivotchongo" in the Matola-Rio Municipality has officially ceased operations, following a directive from the Municipal Council advising against the production and sale of artisanal spirits. The decision follows a visit by the Mayor, Abdul Gafur Issufo, who warned of the risks posed by the consumption of these beverages, especially among young people, and called for a change in the production line.

 In response, the factory's managers expressed their willingness to restructure their operations and invest in the production of less harmful alternative beverages. This measure is part of a broader municipal plan to promote healthier habits, support local entrepreneurship, and reduce alcohol sales in residential areas and near schools.
