Woman brutally attacked with a machete denounces her husband's impunity in Marracuene

A woman living in the municipality of Marracuene, Maputo province, decided to end her silence and report the episodes of domestic violence she has experienced over the years, allegedly at the hands of her own husband. According to her account, the most recent and serious incident occurred last weekend, when she was brutally attacked with a machete, narrowly escaping more serious injuries.

The visibly shaken victim said the abuse is recurrent and that she has filed several complaints with local authorities, without success. "He hits me with his hands, insults me, and now he even used a machete. I've gone to the police several times, but they never do anything," she revealed, adding that her husband boasts of having protection due to his financial situation. "He says I can complain wherever I want, that he'll never be arrested because he has money and his family pays to get him out of jail," she said.

The woman's mother-in-law also confirmed her son's aggressive behavior and lamented that all attempts to mediate the situation were ignored. "I've tried to talk to him several times, but he doesn't want to hear anything. He lives as he pleases and no one tells him anything," she stated.

This case rekindles concerns about domestic violence in the country, especially when coupled with the alleged impunity of financially wealthy perpetrators. The local community is beginning to express outrage, demanding that authorities act decisively to protect the victim and ensure justice is served without bias.

While waiting for protective measures, the woman lives in fear, fearing for her life and that of her children. "I don't know what to do anymore. I just want peace and for my children to grow up in a safe environment," she concluded, calling for urgent intervention by the competent authorities.
