The Pedagogical University of Lhanguene hosted, on Tuesday afternoon, a lecture on the theme "Cybersecurity in the Academic Community", led by Eng. Eugénio Jeremias, Director of Cybersecurity and Data Protection at the National Institute of Information and Communication Technology (INTIC).
The event brought together students, teachers, researchers, and the general public in an environment of sharing and debate around emerging challenges in the field of Information and Communication Technologies (ICTs).
During his presentation, the speaker emphasized that there are currently more connected devices than people worldwide, highlighting the scale and complexity of the risks associated with cyberspace.
Given this scenario, Eugénio Jeremias made it clear that account protection should not be based solely on passwords, and that it is imperative to reinforce security with additional authentication mechanisms in order to mitigate the occurrence of cybercrimes. He also highlighted that this protection must be guaranteed by various entities, warning that, in some cases, attackers may be of foreign origin, which involves international ratification processes.
The Director of Cybersecurity and Data Protection at INTIC also explained that, in the event of any cyberattack, the affected institution must immediately report the incident to the Attorney General's Office (PGR) or INTIC, so that the necessary investigation can be carried out and, simultaneously, other potential victims who may be affected in the same way can be alerted.
On the other hand, Eugénio Jeremias argued that the exercise of cyber citizenship should take place from primary and secondary schools, through universities, and also reach people with disabilities. According to the engineer, this is an inclusive and urgent process, since, over time, paper will cease to exist and everything will function in a digital environment, which makes it essential to learn and understand the tools and risks of the digital world.
