The National Roads Administration (ANE) has reopened, with conditional access, the R804 regional road, which connects Marracuene to Macaneta, after the road suffered significant damage due to recent heavy rains in the region.
Traffic on the R804 regional road, which connects the town of Marracuene to the Macaneta tourist area, resumed this Tuesday, February 3rd, after being interrupted in recent days. The stoppage was due to damage caused by heavy rains that affected Maputo province, compromising road safety.
However, the reopening is conditional and under strict control measures. According to ANE, the objective is to guarantee the mobility of the population and access to Macaneta, while the infrastructure rehabilitation work continues. At the moment, circulation is only authorized between 06:00 and 18:00, a schedule that may be adjusted according to weather conditions and the state of the road.
Among the main restrictions, the prohibition of passage for heavy vehicles weighing more than 10 tons stands out. This measure aims to prevent the worsening of existing damage and reduce the risk of accidents. Furthermore, ANE (National Roads Authority) appeals to drivers to respect the temporary signage and follow the instructions of the technical and inspection teams present at the site.
Currently, maintenance teams are focused on repairing a large crater located on the access road to the bridge, in the Marracuene–Macaneta direction, one of the most critical points on the road. According to ANE (National Roads Authority), this section will operate temporarily without the final pavement, with additional interventions planned as soon as technical and weather conditions permit.
Meanwhile, detailed technical surveys are underway along the R804 to identify the most vulnerable sections and define the emergency works needed for a more thorough and lasting rehabilitation. It should be noted that some segments still have traffic restrictions, requiring extra caution from users.
Finally, the National Roads Administration requests the understanding and cooperation of all motorists, emphasizing that the restrictions aim to safeguard road safety and ensure a sustainable recovery of the infrastructure. The institution guarantees that efforts are being made to fully restore the connection in the shortest possible time, returning normality to traffic and supporting the economic and tourist activity of the region.
