The Governor of Nampula promises improvements in education and demands qualified individuals with a vision for development

The Governor of Nampula Province, Eduardo Mariamo Abdula, reaffirmed this Friday (July 10th) his unwavering commitment to restoring and raising educational standards on Mozambique Island and throughout the province. The statement was made during the second graduation ceremony of the Faculty of Social Sciences and Humanities at Lúrio University, held on Mozambique Island, which celebrated the graduation of 126 new students.

During the event, the governor emphasized that graduation simultaneously marks the end of an academic cycle and the awakening to an even broader responsibility: that of putting the acquired knowledge at the service of local and national development. In this sense, he warned that the diploma should not be seen as a mere certificate, but rather as a reflection of a journey marked by struggle, persistence, and sacrifice—not only by the graduates, but by the entire family unit that believed in their potential to make this achievement possible.

Addressing, in particular, graduates of Local Development and International Relations courses, Eduardo Abdula emphasized that Nampula urgently needs professionals with a strategic vision, capable of interpreting community realities, planning the territory, mobilizing resources, and establishing bridges of cooperation with the outside world. For the governor, sustainable development does not result solely from external initiatives; it germinates, first and foremost, within communities, driven by the commitment and capacity of their own citizens.

As the university's patron, Dr. Nazira Abdula, the governor's wife, praised the new graduates and delivered a particularly inspiring message to the women who completed their higher education. According to her, each graduating woman symbolizes a victory that transcends the individual sphere, extending to the family, the community, and Mozambican society as a whole. Furthermore, she highlighted the role of women as true drivers of social transformation and commended the determination of the graduates, who overcame cultural and structural barriers in a context where combating early marriages, school dropout, and gender inequalities remains one of the greatest national challenges.
