The 16th edition of the Mozal League kicks off on November 28th in Maputo

The Mozambican capital is preparing to buzz with national basketball: the 16th edition of the Mozambican Senior Men's Basketball League, known as Liga Mozal, is scheduled to begin on Friday, November 28, 2025**, at the A Politécnica pavilion in Maputo.

Before the kickoff, the official launch ceremony for the event is scheduled for the day before, November 27th. Promoted by the Mozambican Basketball League (LMB), the session will take place at a hotel in the capital starting at 4:30 PM.

During the event, two key moments will be highlighted: the signing of the sponsorship agreement between Mozal and LMB, and the symbolic presentation of the giant check to the League. Later, the program includes the draw to determine the match schedule and a technical meeting with team representatives.

Regarding the participants, the tournament will feature eight teams. Of these, five are guaranteed a spot based on their ranking from the previous season: the current champion, Clube Ferroviário da Beira; the runner-up, Clube de Desportos da Costa do Sol; and, completing the podium from last season, Clube Ferroviário de Maputo. In addition to these, Clube de Desportos da Maxaquene (4th place) and Clube Ferroviário de Nampula (5th place) will also be present.

Finally, the three remaining spots were secured through the access play-offs, with the clubs Clube de Desportos A' Politécnica, Clube Ferroviário de Quelimane and Academia Desportiva New Vision de Pemba** having a place in the competition that promises strong emotions.
