At least ten individuals suspected of involvement in terrorist acts, all of Tanzanian nationality, were captured by the Defense and Security Forces (FDS) on April 14, in the vicinity of the village of Mandimba, in the district of Nangade, in the northern province of Cabo Delgado.
The information is contained in the most recent report on armed violence in the region, prepared by ACLED as part of the Cabo Ligado project and released on April 22.
The document also mentions the registration of two new attacks in the same area. On April 15th, a group of insurgents attacked the Machava production center, without causing any fatalities. Five days later, they attacked again, this time the village of Nkonga, where, although no deaths were reported, various goods were looted from the population.
According to the report, at the mouth of the Messalo River, terrorists intercepted a vessel bound for Tanzania, forcing the occupants to pay a ransom. Nevertheless, all the cargo was looted, and the sailors were later released.
ACLED also indicates that another group carried out incursions in the district of Mocímboa da Praia. In the community of Nachije, a woman was assaulted while riding a motorcycle, and 7,000 meticais were stolen from her. In the village of Nabaje, located about 14 kilometers from the town of Mocímboa da Praia, the insurgents stole goods and a small boat.
However, sources from “Carta” report a new attack in the village of Mitope, in the locality of Oasse, also in the district of Mocímboa da Praia, which resulted in some casualties among the ranks of the Defense and Security Forces. Source: Carta de Moçambique
