Teachers on Strike Over Delayed Overtime: 10th Grade Exams at Risk at Boquisso Secondary School

An unexpected protest by teachers marked the start of the 10th grade exams at Boquisso Secondary School in Matola. The teachers decided to halt activities in response to the non-payment of overtime, a debt that has been accumulating since 2022. With placards and slogans, they accuse the State of disrespect and of failing to fulfill previous promises, stating that they will only resume work after the amounts owed are paid.

 The strike is generating great apprehension among students and parents, who fear the direct impact on students' academic performance at a critical point in the school year. Meanwhile, school authorities and the Ministry of Education remain silent on the impasse. On the other hand, teachers guarantee that the protest will continue throughout the week if there is no concrete and immediate response from the Government.
