Strike paralyzes transport on the Matola River in Malhapsene

A strike is underway at the Chapa da Igreja and/or Rio Matola bus stops, on the route between Malhapsene and Mulotana, where residents of Zilinga are protesting against the increase in public transport fares, which have risen from 15 to 18 meticais.

For more than 12 years, the government has been making false promises to improve road conditions, leaving drivers in deplorable conditions. At the time of his inauguration, former Mayor Calisto Cossa promised roads in good condition and a potable water network—promises that have not materialized to this day, the source said.

This is an old situation that should deserve special attention from the government. Until that happens, residents and transporters find themselves in a crossfire of accusations: some complain about the price charged, while others justify the increase with the price of fuel and the deplorable conditions of the road, which impose high maintenance and operational costs.

At this moment, a popular demonstration is underway, with riots, barricades, cries for help, and leaflets decorating the area at that location.
