Shooting Festival: Attributed to Alleged SERNIC Agents

Residents of the Chamanculo "D" neighborhood in Maputo city report experiencing terror due to the actions of individuals allegedly belonging to the National Criminal Investigation Service (SERNIC). According to residents, the officers conduct armed pursuits in the neighborhood, with constant gunfire and home invasions without a warrant, jeopardizing the peace and security of families.

According to reports, the alleged officers travel through the neighborhood's streets in vehicles, displaying weapons and firing shots right in the middle of residential areas. "They pass by, armed, and when the thieves flee, they enter our homes and open fire as if we were on a battlefield," said a visibly frightened resident. Residents also claim that these actions are carried out without authorization, and that the officers not only force their way into homes but also intimidate residents and prohibit any kind of complaint.

Families fear for the lives of children and vulnerable individuals, such as the elderly and chronically ill, due to the climate of fear. "Yesterday, they shot at my door, in front of the children. This isn't security, it's abuse," declared another resident. The alleged operations have been recurring, and residents report that the situation has worsened in recent days.

In response to the allegations, the Police of the Republic of Mozambique (PRM) has already responded, promising to conduct on-the-ground investigations to clarify the facts. The population, in turn, demands an urgent response and firm measures to ensure respect for their rights and the restoration of order in the neighborhood.
