The National Criminal Investigation Service (SERNIC) dismantled a homemade processed meat production facility in the George Dimitrov neighborhood (Benfica), Maputo. The facility was producing hamburgers, wors, and other meat products using raw materials unfit for human consumption, such as dirty intestines and, allegedly, feces. The operation was carried out without any health supervision, posing a serious threat to public health.
During the operation, several already processed products, raw materials, and equipment used in production were seized. Seven individuals involved in the production were arrested and are in custody at the 16th Police Station of the Republic of Mozambique (PRM) while investigations continue. The case has generated significant outrage in the community, which is demanding greater control and oversight of informal food operations in the capital's outlying neighborhoods.
