A 35-year-old man was arrested this week by the Police of the Republic of Mozambique (PRM) in the city of Maputo, accused of murdering his wife in the Chamanculo neighborhood. According to authorities, the crime was motivated by jealousy, after the suspect allegedly discovered marital infidelity. According to the PRM, he attacked the victim with a bottle, inflicting fatal blows that led to her death.
The investigation reveals that the detainee has a serious criminal history. Specifically, in 2024, he was allegedly arrested for the murder of his then-partner. Subsequently, he was held in a maximum-security prison until last December, when he managed to escape during a mass prison break. Although he himself denies prior involvement in crimes of this nature, the police classify him as a repeat offender.
In light of this case, the PRM (Mozambique Police) warns of the rise in crimes of passion and appeals to society to resolve marital conflicts peacefully. To this end, it recommends resorting to institutions such as family mediation centers and psychological support. "It is fundamental," a spokesperson stated, "that citizens find civilized ways to deal with disagreements, avoiding irreparable tragedies."
Currently, the accused is in police custody awaiting legal proceedings, while the investigation continues to ascertain all the details of the crime and confirm his criminal record.
