In the province of Zambézia, in Quelimane, Bairro Ivagalane, a fully built and equipped secondary school has remained closed since 2021. The infrastructure was built by the municipality with support from the Municipality of Setúbal (Portugal), but the local government refuses to take over its management.
The school has all the necessary conditions to operate, but it lacks state approval to integrate it into the national education system. Hundreds of children remain without access to a decent learning environment, while the infrastructure is at risk of deterioration.
The city council denounces political motivations behind the impasse and calls for urgent solutions to guarantee the community's right to education.
