PRM launches national weapons collection campaign: voluntary surrender exempt from criminal liability

The General Command of the Police of the Republic of Mozambique (PRM), through its Public Relations Department, announced the launch of the National Campaign for the Collection and Voluntary Surrender of Firearms. The initiative's main objective is to control weapons in the hands of others, aiming at the prevention and combating of crime in the country.

The campaign is structured in two distinct phases. Firstly, Phase 1 runs from September 29 to December 15, 2026, focusing on raising awareness and encouraging citizens to voluntarily surrender weapons. Subsequently, Phase 2 begins on December 15, 2026 and extends until January 15, 2027, characterized by the coercive collection of weapons that are in an irregular or illegal situation.

The PRM (Mozambique Police) appeals to all citizens to hand over any irregular or illegal weapons to the nearest Police Stations, Precincts, District Commands, or Provincial Commands. Furthermore, the force guarantees that "those who do so voluntarily within the deadline will not be held criminally liable."
