A healthcare professional was arrested by the Mozambican Republic Police, accused of sexually assaulting an 18-year-old patient, in an incident that raises serious concerns about ethics and safety in healthcare facilities.
The suspect is in custody at the 2nd Police Station of the PRM (Police of the Republic of Mozambique), in the same city, following swift action by the authorities. According to information released by the Police, everything happened when the technician, assigned to the Health Center in the Muhala neighborhood, allegedly used deception to lure the young woman, claiming the need to perform laboratory tests. Under the pretext of collecting samples from her genitals, he ended up abusing the victim's trust, committing the act of sexual violence.
Deeply shaken, the young woman returned home and revealed what had happened to her mother. The immediate report allowed for prompt police intervention, which culminated in the suspect's arrest. "Given that she is a virgin, the situation caused great concern to the family, who did not hesitate to contact the authorities," explained the spokesperson for the PRM in Nampula.
This case is not an isolated incident. In the same operation, the police presented another 26 individuals involved in various crimes, ranging from vandalism of electrical infrastructure and falsification of identity documents, particularly personal identification cards, to robberies and death threats, revealing a worrying scenario of crime in the region.
The spokesperson for the PRM (Mozambique Police), Rosa Chaúque, emphasized that the accused exploited the victim's vulnerability, abusing the position of trust that his profession demands. The case is now proceeding through the legal process, while society demands justice and greater control over the conduct of healthcare professionals.
This episode raises an urgent warning: the need to strengthen oversight mechanisms and ensure that spaces intended for care do not become places of violation of human rights and dignity. Source: Mozambique Charter.
