Poetry work “Geometry of Feelings” launched at BCI

On a night marked by deep emotion and celebration of literature, the BCI Auditorium hosted, last Thursday (21), the launch of the work “Geometria dos Sentimentos”, by the Mozambican poet Maomede Naguib Omar.

The book presentation was given by the poet and current Secretary-General of the Mozambican Writers' Association, Filimone Meigos, who guided the audience through a sensitive and reflective reading of the book. In his speech, he highlighted that the work does not present itself as a manual of emotions, but as "maps drawn after the storm," where chaos reveals its own structure, inviting the reader to explore the essence of poetry and human experience.

Representing BCI, the Media Library Coordinator, Telma Jorge, emphasized the value of the work as a reflection on human feelings: “This book speaks about human feelings, such as pain, love, gratitude, and relationships between people. It is a work that invites us to look inside ourselves and also at the world around us.” On the occasion, she reiterated the Bank's commitment: “We believe that literature is fundamental to culture and society. Therefore, BCI remains committed to supporting these initiatives.” And she concluded: “May the Geometry of Feelings inspire us to contribute and build an ever stronger identity, from now on.”

Visibly emotional, on a day that marked the celebration of his 70th birthday, the author shared an intimate reflection on his personal and literary journey: "there are moments in life when time seems to slow down, to allow us to contemplate the landscape of our own journey... today is one of those days of mandatory pause and immense emotion."

Continuing, he highlighted the geometric metaphor that runs through the work, noting that, on his journey, he drew lines of determination, bowed before life's storms, calculated distances, and sought points of convergence with others. He emphasized that writing the book was "an attempt to find a pseudo-poetic order for the beautiful complexity of what makes us human," seeking to harmonize reason and feeling. In closing, he left a message that summarizes the spirit of the work: "If reason gives us the structure to walk, it is feeling that gives us the motive to move forward."

The event was enriched by diverse cultural moments, including poetry readings, music, theater, and dance, creating an engaging artistic atmosphere. An intimate moment was also a highlight.

A tribute event, led by the author's family, celebrated his life's journey and intellectual contribution.

With this initiative, BCI reinforces its commitment to promoting culture and the arts, actively contributing to the appreciation of national creators and the strengthening of Mozambican cultural identity.
