Passengers bound for Boane affected by technical failure of CFM's Railcar 201

Following a technical malfunction on Railcar 201, which was scheduled to depart from Central Station for Boane at 5:15 PM, passengers were left stranded without any prior warning. The situation was only resolved hours later, forcing many to find alternative transportation on their own.

This afternoon, October 6, 2026, Railcar 201, scheduled to depart from Central Station to Boane at 5:15 PM, did not depart due to a technical fault, leaving dozens of passengers without any prior information. According to reports gathered at the scene, the passengers remained stranded for some time, without CFM (the railway company) promptly communicating the seriousness of the situation.

In a statement, the company regrets the incident: "For the inconvenience caused by the technical fault on our Railcar 201, bound for Boane, which occurred today, October 6, 2026, we sincerely apologize for the impact this situation had on your trip and your commitments. Our technical team acted as quickly as possible to resolve the problem and normalize service."

The statement further adds that "the situation has been resolved and Railcar 201, scheduled to depart at 06:15, will operate normally."

However, it was determined that the passengers on board abandoned the trip after at least two failed departure attempts, seeking other alternatives at the same station. By the time the train bound for Matola Gare had already departed, a large part of this group was forced to board a regular train bound for Goba—without, however, being able to use their Automotora ticket.

According to the statement, passengers who purchased tickets for the cancelled railcar can revalidate them with the ticket inspector or at the nearest station.

This morning, passengers traveling on the train from Matola Gare to the Central Station were surprised to be required to present, in addition to the ticket purchased the previous afternoon, another regular ticket proving that the first one had not been used. Simultaneously, all passengers left behind were required to report the situation to the Central Station.

Contacted by our reporters, a source lamented CFM's stance, considering that the company was not proactive. "We are human, we are aware of the breakdown, but warning of the seriousness or reasonableness of the situation would have been vital. Therefore, the absence of this dynamic undermines the good relationship between both parties," they stated.

The situation exposes weaknesses in communication between the company and its users, at a time when the reliability of the service and passenger confidence remain in question.
