Residents of the Ngolhosa neighborhood in Maputo province recently blocked the road used by trucks from a sand mine in protest against environmental and noise pollution caused by the operation. Residents complain that, since January, heavy vehicles have been damaging the road, raising dust, and causing vibrations that have already caused cracks in nearby homes. Despite complaints filed with local authorities, they claim to have received no response or solution.
As a form of pressure, local residents erected barricades with logs, stones, and tires, blocking the movement of trucks. They claim that the situation is jeopardizing public health and the quality of life, especially for children and the elderly. They are now demanding urgent action from the authorities to curb the negative impacts of mining and ensure compliance with environmental standards.
