Neyma Brings Marrabenta to the Heart of Eswatini

Mozambique shines at the 8th edition of the Luju Food & Lifestyle Festival.

The biggest celebration of African creativity has kicked off. At a ceremony held at the Standard Bank Incubator in Maputo, the 8th edition of the Standard Bank Luju Food & Lifestyle Festival was officially launched, promising to transform the iconic House on Fire venue in Malkerns (Eswatini) into a true cultural melting pot during the event.

Under the inspiring motto "A Return to the African Future," the 2026 edition is not just a festival; it's a movement that reclaims the ancestral heritage of the continent, with a special focus on the culture and tradition of the Nguni people, to showcase the most innovative aspects of music, fashion, and gastronomy in the region.

The most anticipated moment of the launch was the confirmation of the two major national musical acts. The acclaimed singer Neyma Alfredo was announced as one of the main attractions on the Main Stage, bringing the infectious Marrabenta to one of the most prestigious stages on the continent. Her participation promises to be a landmark in the promotion of contemporary traditional music from Mozambique.

As an ambassador for regional cooperation, the Katembe Conexion collective is also present, symbolizing the creative union between musicians from Mozambique and Eswatini and reinforcing the cultural ties that unite the two countries.

For the first time, the festival significantly expands its gastronomic segment, integrating new Mozambican chefs into the official program. The initiative, which began with the XIKAFU restaurant, now gains new voices and flavors, consolidating Mozambican cuisine as one of the pillars of the event's cultural identity.

In fashion, national creativity is also not far behind. After the success of previous editions with brands such as Xipixi, Xada Baba and Leão de Judá, the new generation of designers promises to repeat the success, showcasing the authenticity and competitiveness of Mozambican design on the African scene.

Beyond the spectacle, Luju is an economic engine. Last year's edition generated around 2.5 million rand in revenue, created 650 jobs, and brought together participants from 26 countries. These figures demonstrate the strength of the creative economy.

Jiggs Thorne, Festival Director, emphasized the strategic importance of Mozambique: "We want to celebrate our heritage and reclaim our identity. Mozambique occupies a central place in this vision, and the creation of cultural corridors, such as the partnership with XHUB, has been fundamental in facilitating artistic mobility."

Júlia Novela, Executive Director of XHUB, reinforced the spirit of the mission: "More than an artistic presence, each participation is an opportunity to strengthen cultural diplomacy, stimulate tourism and affirm the creative economy as an engine of sustainable development."

The Secretary of State for Culture and Tourism, Matilde Muhocha, who was also present, applauded the initiative, highlighting that the festival contributes to the creation of "unique synergies for the sharing of cultures".

With a multidisciplinary program encompassing music, wellness, art, and entrepreneurship, the 8th edition of the Standard Bank Luju Food & Lifestyle Festival is already scheduled to reaffirm its place as one of the largest cultural gatherings in Africa. And Mozambique, once again, will be at the heart of the celebration.
