New exhibition at Absa makes visible the invisible work of women

“Invisible Work” is the title of the exhibition curated by Elizabeth Queta, which invites reflection on the role of women in the social, economic, and cultural development of Mozambique. On display at the Premier spaces of Absa Bank Mozambique in Maputo, Beira, and Nampula until July 27th, the exhibition gives visibility to forms of work and contributions that, although essential to society, often remain without due recognition.

The works depict activities fundamental to the functioning of families, communities, and the economy, from domestic work to initiatives developed in markets and various sectors of the informal economy. Through an immersive artistic approach, the exhibition places women at the center of the narrative, highlighting their role as active agents of social, economic, and cultural transformation in the country.

Akila Ghumra, Director of Operations at Absa Bank Mozambique, believes that the exhibition creates a space for dialogue about women's contribution to development and reinforces the role of art as a tool for awareness and reflection.

"When we talk about development, we often talk about large numbers, sectors, or projects. But there is a daily, silent, and indispensable work carried out by thousands of women that sustains families, communities, and the economy itself. 'Invisible Work' invites us to recognize this contribution and demonstrates how art can help us look at our reality in a more conscious, humane, and inclusive way."

The exhibition presents stories of resilience, leadership, and collective impact, challenging traditional perspectives and promoting a greater appreciation of the role of women in the daily lives of families, communities, and the national economy.
