Murder in Chimoio: PRM investigates death of ANAMOLA district coordinator

The city of Chimoio was once again marked by an episode of violence with the assassination of the district coordinator of the National Alliance for a Free and Autonomous Mozambique (ANAMOLA) party, Anselmo Abílio Vicente, 38 years old, fatally shot on Saturday night (09), on National Road Number Six (EN6), in the province of Manica.

According to information provided by the Police of the Republic of Mozambique (PRM), Anselmo Vicente was walking with a friend after participating in a political party meeting in the Soalpo neighborhood, where he had been elected the political delegate for that area, when he was surprised by unknown individuals.

According to the head of the Public Relations Department at the provincial command of the PRM in Manica, Mouzinho Manasse, the suspects were traveling in a red Isuzu double-cab vehicle, from which they fired shots at the victim.

Seriously wounded in the abdominal region, Anselmo Vicente was taken to the Chimoio Provincial Hospital, where he died about an hour after arriving at the health facility.

“Since we became aware of this case, we immediately began the investigative work. Some evidence has already been collected at the crime scene, and we believe that the case can be solved,” stated Mouzinho Manasse.

The PRM also confirmed the opening of a criminal case against unknown individuals, which has already been forwarded to the Public Prosecutor's Office for due legal processing and continuation of the investigations.

Despite the shock caused by the incident, the police force assures that the atmosphere in the city of Chimoio remains calm, appealing to the population to remain composed and cooperate with information that may lead to the identification of the perpetrators of the crime.

The assassination of Anselmo Vicente raises renewed concerns about crime and security levels in the city of Chimoio, particularly in contexts related to political activity.
