Several residents of the Mulotana district, mostly linked to the municipalities of Boane, Matola and Maputo, are upset with the performance of the Matola government in coordination with FIPAG due to the bad faith in the process of setting up the public network over thirteen years and depriving the population of access to basic services and/or fundamental rights such as water and access roads.
People outraged by the false promises made during the presidential campaigns for the election of the president of the republic in Mulotana headquarters, according to mother Angelina, she told our reporter that living in that neighborhood is not sustainable. The water supply service is provided by private individuals using animal-drawn transport (donkeys) and vehicles where each one uses recycled tanks and drums.
When we negotiate with the transporters, they in turn claim that they cannot lower their prices and attribute this situation to the poor quality of the road, which has caused them various mechanical losses. To this end, containers are used that, to look at them, are considered unsanitary, which undermines public health. One thousand liters cost five hundred meticais (500.00 MTn) and twenty liters cost twenty meticais (20.00 MTn).
Mama Angelina has lived in that neighborhood for more than thirty-five years and says that in the past the rain was regular and allowed the conservation of the precious liquid, whereas now it has become less regular and they are forced to buy water at a time when they produce nothing on the farm and have no source of income, which increasingly undermines their expectations.
For some time, a bus was running, a public transport service for the Municipality of Matola that was created as part of the promises, but due to the narrowness of the road, it broke down twice and had to be intervened by the emergency services. After that, it never ran again. If it weren't for My Loves and Ten Yes, we would be left to our own devices. The district is crying out for a road from Malhapswene to Mulotana and a drinking water network, according to the slogan "without water there is no life".
