Starting this Monday, informal vendors of spirits in the municipality of Matola Rio, particularly "Xivotchongo," face a new city council measure banning their sale. The decision was announced by the City Council as part of a strategy to reduce the negative impacts of excessive consumption of these beverages, especially among young people.
The municipality has launched an operation to immediately collect beverages from points of sale. Vendors are concerned about the financial losses they may suffer, as many depend on this activity as their primary source of income. The municipality assures that it is preparing a support program to integrate these vendors into more sustainable business alternatives that are less harmful to public health.
