Maputo hosts the First Forum on Business Sustainability and the Green Economy

MFGB Expo 2026 will bring together companies, government, investors, academia, and entrepreneurs to discuss business, innovation, and environmental responsibility.

The city of Maputo will host the Mozambique Future Green Business (MFGB) Expo 2026 on September 19th, a forum dedicated to business sustainability, the green economy, innovation, and investment. Organized by Ecobrand Mozambique, with institutional support from the Ministry of Agriculture, Environment and Fisheries, the event will take place under the motto "Your Brand Can Save the Planet" and is expected to bring together between 300 and 500 participants.

MFGB Expo 2026 was born from the need to place sustainability at the heart of economic and business decisions, demonstrating that environmental responsibility should not be seen merely as a cost or obligation, but also as an opportunity for innovation, efficiency, differentiation, and growth. The event aims to bring together companies, public institutions, investors, academia, entrepreneurs, and civil society organizations that develop green solutions and services.

The program will be structured around six panels, dedicated to the role of brands in building a sustainable future; ecotourism, agribusiness and conservation; clean energy and sustainable mobility; green economy and blue economy; innovation and entrepreneurship; and green finance, ESG and impact investing. In addition to the debates, the event will include an exhibition of projects and companies, presentations of solutions, and opportunities for establishing partnerships and networking.

According to Ecobrand's CEO, Faustino Quissico, the forum aims to transform sustainability into a practical agenda for the business sector. “Our objective is to transform sustainability into a concrete conversation about business, investment, and employment. Companies can no longer treat the environmental agenda as a side activity. They need to integrate it into their decisions, their products, and how they generate value for the country,” he stated.

Faustino Quissico added that the ambition is for the meeting to produce results beyond the event itself. “We want each participant to leave the Expo with a decision, a partnership, or a commitment. The impact will not be measured solely by the number of people present, but by the actions that begin to be implemented after August 22nd.”

Environmentalist Carlos Serra, a partner in the initiative, defended the need to reconcile economic growth and environmental protection. "Mozambique doesn't need to choose between producing wealth and protecting its natural resources," he stated, emphasizing that "there is no sustainable economy when the environmental base that sustains communities, businesses, and the State itself is destroyed." According to the environmentalist, companies play a central role in changing behaviors and practices throughout their value chains.

One of the key moments of the MFGB Expo 2026 will be the presentation of the Maputo Declaration for Corporate Sustainability, through which business, government and institutional leaders will be invited to make concrete commitments on sustainability.

The proposal includes commitments related to reducing the environmental footprint of organizations, regularly disseminating information on sustainability or ESG, and supporting recycling, clean energy, or conservation initiatives in the communities where they operate. The event will also feature an exhibition area for companies, organizations, government entities, and green business initiatives, with solutions related to energy, environment, agriculture, conservation, technology, mobility, blue economy, and sustainable finance.
