Macaúze unveils “Mirrors of Mysteries” in an exhibition at BCI

The art of renowned Mozambican visual artist Palmeirim Macaúze is on display at the Commercial and Investment Bank (BCI) Auditorium in Maputo, with the exhibition "Mirrors of Mysteries".

The exhibition brings together 25 works that explore various techniques, such as oil on canvas, glass, and ceramics. Through them, Macaúze invites the public to reflect on the enigmas of life and the force of nature. “This work is an invitation to contemplate the mysteries that surround us and the transformative power of nature,” explained the Director of the BCI Media Libraries, Carla Mamade, at the opening.

Mamade reinforced the bank's commitment to national culture: “It is with great satisfaction that BCI supports both emerging talents and established artists like Macaúze, whose invaluable experience contributes to the enrichment of our cultural landscape.” He added: “By hosting this exhibition, we reaffirm our social role and our support for sectors that are fundamental to the country, going beyond our financial function.”

Armando Cumbe, the artist's representative, highlighted the evolution of Macaúze's artistic language. “He engages intensely with nature through paints and palette knives, creating works that mirror the beauty around us. His trajectory has shifted from a landscape of almost photographic precision, where the sea was merely a backdrop, to transforming the canvas into a stage for profound revelations – now becoming an echo of a cry against indifference.”

With a career marked by consistency and reinvention, Palmeirim Macaúze (born in 1961) held his first exhibition in 1986 and had already consolidated his career with a third solo show in 1989. After an exchange program in South Africa in 1999 and a period of creative retreat, he returned with force in 2024 with "Utopian Certainties," also at the BCI, an exhibition that represented a turning point in his career.

“Mirrors of Mysteries” remains open to the public, with free admission, until December 13th, at the BCI Auditorium in Maputo.
